Will Curly Hair Extensions Revert After Washing or Coloring?Updated 18 days ago

Yes. Our curly and wavy human hair extensions are designed to return to their natural texture after washing when they have been temporarily styled with heat.

Coloring is different. Because permanent color, lightener, and bleach chemically alter the hair, professional coloring may slightly loosen or change the original curl or wave pattern. The hair may still curl after washing, but we cannot guarantee that chemically processed curls will return to exactly the same pattern they had before coloring.

Quick answer:

Washing alone should allow the hair to return toward its natural curl or wave pattern. Coloring or bleaching can permanently alter that pattern, especially when significant lightening is involved.

Will the Curls Come Back After Washing?

If you temporarily straighten or heat-style your curly extensions, washing and conditioning the hair should allow the natural texture to return.

How closely the curl returns to its original pattern will depend on the texture, previous color or chemical processing, the amount of heat used, and how the hair has been maintained over time.

What Happens If You Color Curly Hair Extensions?

Our curly human hair extensions can be professionally colored. However, coloring changes the hair chemically, so some change in curl definition should be expected, particularly when lifting the hair several levels or using bleach.

Depending on the color service, you may notice:

  • A slightly looser curl or wave pattern
  • Increased dryness after lightening
  • A greater need for conditioning and moisture
  • Some difference between the original texture and the color-treated texture after washing

Professional recommendation:

If you plan to lighten, bleach, or significantly change the color of your extensions, we recommend having the service performed by an experienced professional colorist. A strand test should be completed first so the colorist can evaluate how the hair responds before processing the full set.

Can Colored Curly Extensions Still Look Beautiful?

Absolutely. Professional color customization can create beautiful results while keeping much of the hair’s curl, body, and movement intact. The final result depends on the starting texture, desired shade, amount of lift, coloring technique, and aftercare.

How to Care for Curly Extensions After Coloring

Color-treated curly extensions typically need additional moisture and gentler handling to help maintain softness and curl definition.

  • Deep condition after the color service and regularly thereafter
  • Detangle gently and avoid unnecessary pulling
  • Limit repeated high-heat styling
  • Allow the hair to dry in its natural curl pattern when possible
  • Follow the care recommendations provided by your stylist for the specific color service performed

What About Bleaching or Going Much Lighter?

The greater the color change, the more the hair must be chemically processed. Going from a darker shade to a much lighter blonde generally requires more processing than depositing a darker or similar-level color.

Because of that, significant lightening may have a greater effect on moisture, curl definition, and the overall condition of the extensions. This is another reason we recommend professional color services and strand testing before committing to a major change.

Before coloring your full set:

Always test a small section first. Human hair extensions can respond differently depending on the texture, previous processing, desired shade, and color formula being used.
