Why Your Extensions Might Not Match at First Glance?Updated 21 hours ago

It’s a common question we get from first-time customers:

“I received my extensions, but they don’t quite look like my curls…”

Here’s the truth: matching textured hair—especially curly or coily types—requires more than a quick glance. And it starts with understanding the difference between trained hair, raw extensions, and true texture.

What Is Trained Hair?

If you’ve ever flat-ironed your natural curls regularly or worn stretched styles like blowouts or twist-outs, your hair has likely been trained. This simply means your curl pattern has loosened slightly over time due to heat or product use.

While this is totally normal, it can cause your natural hair to look looser than it actually is, especially at the perimeter or ends.

Raw Extensions Need to Be Washed & Trained Too

All of our hair extensions are made from raw, unprocessed human hair. That means when you first receive them, they haven’t been styled, manipulated, or “trained” to match your routine yet.

Just like your own curls, raw hair extensions need to be washed, conditioned, and styled before they blend naturally with your hair. Once trained and worn over time, they’ll conform beautifully to your lifestyle.

Where We Match From: Your True Texture

When you submit images to our Texture Matching Concierge, we don’t match to your edges, your ends, or wet curls.

We match to the healthiest section of your hair, usually found around the crown and upper shaft. Why? Because that’s where 90% of your texture lives—and that’s what your extensions will blend with most naturally.

It’s also very normal for women with natural hair to have 2–3 different curl patterns on one head. The back may be tighter, the perimeter looser, and the top more defined. We use our trained eye to match what’s most dominant.

How to Send the Best Photos

To get the best match, make sure to:

  • Take your photos in natural lighting (no filters)
  • Show your hair fully dried after a fresh wash
  • Include at least two angles (back + side or crown)
  • Avoid showing only your edges, ends, or wet curls

We’ll review and respond with a recommended texture match within 24 hours.
