What Hair Products Should I Use—and How Often?Updated 2 hours ago

When caring for your SL Raw Hair extensions, the products you use matter. The right formula keeps your extensions soft, manageable, and long-lasting—while the wrong ones can lead to dryness, buildup, and tangles.

Recommended Hair Products for Extensions

Look for gentle, moisturizing products free of harsh chemicals. We recommend:

  • Jane Carter Solution

  • Matrix

  • Design Essentials

  • Redken 'All Soft'

  • KeraCare Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

  • Dove Hydrating ranges

What Ingredients Should You Avoid?

No Sulfates or Drying Alcohols

Avoid shampoos and conditioners that contain the following ingredients:

  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate

  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

  • Alcohol Denat., SD Alcohol 40

  • Propanol, Isopropyl, Ethanol

These can strip the natural luster and moisture from your extensions.

No Sticky or Heavy Styling Products

Avoid:

  • Hard Hairspray

  • Hair gels

  • Wax-based pomades

Sticky formulas leave residue that causes matting and buildup. If used, be prepared to wash your extensions more frequently.

How Often Should I Wash My Extensions?

  • Sew-ins / Wefts: Every 7–10 days

  • Clip-ins / Microlinks: Every 10–14 days, depending on usage

  • Wigs: After 4–6 wears or as needed, based on product buildup

💡 Remember: Over-washing leads to dryness. Always detangle before washing and use lukewarm water.

Bonus Tip: Lightweight Leave-ins

Use a leave-in conditioner spray or hydrating tonic that won’t weigh your hair down. These help refresh between washes and support a healthy scalp environment.
