Microlinks vs I-Tips: What’s the Difference?Updated a day ago

What Are Microlinks?

Microlinks refer to a braidless installation technique where small sections of hair are secured using silicone-lined microbeads. These beads clamp the extension to your natural strand, allowing for full movement, minimal tension, and access to the scalp for styling or washing.

Microlinks can be used in two primary ways:

This is the most natural-looking and lightweight version. Individual I-Tip strands are attached to small sections of your natural hair using beads. It allows for maximum flexibility and mimics natural strand flow.

Also known as single weft microlinks, this method uses a wefted track instead of individual strands. The stylist attaches the weft in small sections using beads, following the same strand-by-strand microlink technique.

While both methods fall under the microlink category, I-Tip microlinks deliver the most seamless blend and are preferred by clients seeking an undetectable finish.

What Are I-Tips?

I-Tips are individual hair extension strands tipped with a small keratin or bond seal, shaped like a stick. These tips are clamped into place using microbeads during a microlink install.

The type of I-Tip you choose matters:

  • Raw Indian I-Tips → For fuller textures, longer wear

  • Curly Hair I-Tips → For medium-density hair seeking volume with versatility

  • Seamless I-Tips → For finer hair, ultra-discreet finish
